Actual cycle time data collected from the machines is analyzed to determine ideal cycle time and standard time. Our experience shows that more often than not, the standard times are inflated. Sometimes available time is under-reported. Either way, real OEE is much different from you have been led to believe.

Micro-stops, also knows as Chokote, is the 'invisible' enemy of efficiency. Unlike breakdowns or changeovers, micro-stops are short. However, they are very frequent. The cumulative impact of micro-stops is quite big. Often bigger than the impact of breakdowns and changeovers put together. But unfortunately, they are often ignored as it is very difficult to measure and record the duration and reasons for the stops. They are considered "unavoidable, "part of the process" and typically hidden under inflated standard times. Micro-stops are akin to "death by a thousand cuts".
